The Centre is open to pre-booked school visits from Monday to Friday in term time. Exhibition-only visits include 2 hours on the exhibition floor with a member of our Science Communicator team, who will aid your group in exploring our exciting exhibits and activities.
Dates & times
We offer both morning and afternoon sessions for school visits;
Morning visits run from either 9:30am-11:30am or 10:00am-12:00pm, and afternoon visits run from either 12pm-2pm or 12:30pm-2:30pm.
Timings can be chosen on the needs of your school, such as travel time. Our school sessions last 2 hours, with an option to add 30 minutes lunch space on. If you would like the later timeslot either on a morning or afternoon visit, please toggle this when booking.
Capacity and age range
We are able accommodate up to 120 children per session, and welcome pupils from nursery level up to S6. Larger groups may be split into smaller groups to better facilitate your visit around the exhibitions, with a maximum of 33 students per group. Each group will be guided around the centre by a member of our Science Communicator team, ensuring that all zones of the centre are visited.
Please note that your visit may coincide with another school visiting, and depending on group sizes you may share the exhibition floor with another school.
Lunch Space
We have two lunch spaces available for schools to pre-book as part of their visit, however lunch time is not included within the session times – meaning this will add 30 minutes to your visit, with the total time spent at the centre increased to 2 hours 30 minutes.
If you require lunch space as part of your booking, please toggle this on the booking page. Whilst we try to accommodate any lunch period at the end of a morning session or at the beginning of an afternoon session, due to operational constraints and capacity this may be accommodated during your session. Please also note that due to seating capacity in our lunch spaces any larger group may be scheduled to have split lunchtimes.
Cost & Funding
The cost of an exhibition only visit is £5 per pupil, with any accompanying adults free of charge. If you are looking to visit from a council run nursery school or primary school (P1-P7) within the City of Dundee we may be able to assist with funding for admission costs, dependant on the location of your school. We may also be able to assist with funding for transport costs to the Dundee Science Centre, however this is dependant on the location of your school within Scotland.
For more information on funding please click here.
Unless otherwise requested, an invoice will be sent to the booking email within 48 hours after your visit for any admission costs – this ensures we only charge for the number of pupils who are present on the day. Please contact us if you would like to pay by cheque or cash/card on the day.
If you are looking to book an “Exhibition only” visit as part of our “Learning Lab” programme – this is fully funded by the programme and will be at no cost to your school. When booking a visit, please toggle the “Learning Lab” visit option so that we are aware your group is part of the programme.
