Seagreen and Science Futures
Children from across Tayside became the first ever pupils to explore the workings of an offshore service operations vessel for Scotland’s biggest offshore wind farm.
The fourteen S4-S6 pupils from four secondary schools were selected after succeeding in a competition launched by Dundee Science Centre. The challenge tasked young people to design a poster, presentation or Tik-Tok style video on the importance of wind energy in building a sustainable future for Scotland.
Pupils enjoyed a tour of the Brint Enabler SOV and it’s control centre which will help support safer and more efficient operations on the £3 billion Wind Farm, which is fully operational 16.7 miles off the Montrose coast. The group enjoyed a presentation about Seagreen, from emerging job opportunities to what to expect from a typical day offshore.

Through our competition inviting pupils to explore and communicate the importance of wind energy in building a sustainable future for Scotland, we attracted some brilliant concepts and theories which prove that our young people are grasping the significant role that renewable energy could play in their futures. To enhance that experience with a tour of the Brint Enabler SOV was just fantastic and provide an invaluable opportunity to explore the range of careers that are opening up right now, to meet the people behind these jobs and to see how they might fit in the future workforce.”
The 82-metre-long vessel accommodates up to 60 personnel and features a motion-compensated gangway system (walk to work), enabling it to connect on the offshore wind turbine generators (WTG’s). It is also prepared for future zero-emission operations due to its hybrid hydrogen power capability. The vessel sets a new standard in the offshore wind market, housing a medical facility, gym, day room, and games room.
